How to enable Slack integration
Last Updated 7 years ago

This feature will not be available until our newest version is released on 3/8/2017.

Church Service Planner can integrate with a Slack channel to post any notes someone makes on a schedule, replies received to communication from Church Service Planner, and a summary of who is working on the day of your schedule. This is a separate configuration for each ministry; however, the same "Webhook URL" can be used if you want other ministries to post to the same Slack channel. To enable this integration:

  1. Visit (your-team-domain).slack.com/apps
    1. Search for "webhooks"
    2. Click on "Incoming WebHooks
  2. Click "Add Configuration"
  3. Select the channel you want Church Service Planner to post to.
    1. Click "Add Incoming WebHooks integration"
  4. Copy the "Webhook URL"
  5. Open a new tab and log into your Church Service Planner account
    1. If prompted, open your ministry.
  6. Click "Configure Ministry"
  7. Click "Slack Settings"
  8. Check the box for "Post to Slack from Church Service Planner"
  9. Paste the "Webhook URL" that you copied in step 4 in the box that shows up
  10. Click "Save"
  11. You can now go back to the Slack app configuration.
  12. Scroll down to "Integration Settings" where you can set options for how the messages from Church Service Planner are displayed.
    1. You can change the channel that Church Service Planner posts to if you wish
    2. You can add a descriptive label (such as "Notifications from Church Service Planner")
    3. You can change the name (for instance, "Church Service Planner" instead of "incoming-webhook")
    4. And you can change the icon. You can either choose your own image to upload, or choose an emoji from Slack. One that we would suggest is the "latin_cross" emoji.
  13. Click "Save Settings"
  14. You can test your integration by adding a note to your next service. This note should now appear on Slack.

If you ever want to change the appearance of your Slack integration, simply go back to the Apps search, find "Incoming Webhooks" and edit your existing configuration. If you ever "regenerate" your webhook URL, you will need to update this in Church Service Planner.
